Probably one of the easiest cake recipes ever. You don't even need a bowl. You just "dump" all the ingredients together in your baking pan (I use a 9x13 but even that can be changed with this versatile recipe). There are loads of different variations of this recipe and I think most of us who grew up in the States in the 80s had this at a school function at one time or another. Or if you were a girl, you made it in Girl Scouts. Another great thing about the recipe is it's cheap. I made one last night and got all the ingredients for $4.05! It's not a small cake either. So it's a good way to have a sweet treat in these times of high food prices.

Ingredients

1 can cherry pie filling (about 20-21 oz)
1 can #2 crushed pineapple in heavy syrup (about 20-21 oz)
1 box yellow cake mix (NO pudding in the mix)
2 sticks melted butter

Preheat oven to 325F. Grease your pan and put in the cherry pie filling. Just spread it around with a spatula or spoon. Put pineapple in and spread it around with the cherry. You don't have to mix it perfect, just make sure it's pretty even. Take yellow cake mix and sprinkle it over the top of the cherry and pineapple (I use a fork to break up the cake mix and make it more even but you don't have to). Make sure the ingredients are covered by the cake mix. Take the melted butter and drizzle it on top of the cake mix. Stick in the oven and cook for 1hour and 10 mins. It will get a nice golden brown and be bubbling when it comes out.

Some people add nuts or coconut or other fruit. The choices are pretty much endless. And since you don't need a mixing bowl, clean up is a snap. When you serve it people think you spent hours. So there you go, cheap and cheerful Dump Cake.

Hmmmmm.......sounds like it might be a nice dessert for Thanksgiving that can cook while we eat our Turkey.

I have heard of this before but never had it, so will give it a go. Thanks Sky Smile

it does sounds nice, but yellow cake mix seems to be an american thing - i can't find it over here except in specialist shops where they get it from america and then you're paying £3.25 plus postage which ends up making the cake not so cheap!

It is a lot like a crumble or cobbler Aja.

Luke, you can use white cake mix as well. I know you can find the Duncan Hines, Betty Crocker stuff over there. You should also be able to find the white cake mix in any place like Tesco's. I made my own wedding cake over there using the instant kind and got it at Safeway.
