As if you weren't dealing with enough information overload already, you may soon be able to look forward to text messages from your dog. That would be courtesy of a couple of Swedish companies that have developed a collar-mounted GPS receiver.

If Scooby gets lost, you send a text message to the GPS unit, which responds with a message that includes a map showing where the dog is. Swedes will be start using the Petlink service in a few weeks.

that's a good idea for sure - I wonder how much the collars would be though?

I was wondering that myself. I would think it would be worth it. However, I have to think that having your pet chipped is still the best way to go because it's a lot easier for a collar to slip off or be taken off.

I agree and yet we haven't gotten our dog chipped --- never really saw the need for it. But you're right about the collar slipping off --- too easy to be removed even by someone who want's to steal the dog.

but the chip wouldn't be any use in this situation as you need someone with a chip-reader and the dog to have been caught in the first place.
