do people agree with galloway, and according to the bbc's '100 greatest britains' show; british public opinion, that winston churchill is the greatest ever britain? over the years i've read or heard a few bits here and there and my opinion of him wasn't good. i've recently finished reading a book by a guy called john newsinger called 'the blood never dried - a peoples history of the british empire' and now my opinion is he was an absolute evil cunt. with the things he did and said i find it incredible that he'd even be put forward for such a title, let alone win it, but i guess that goes to show the power of the propaganda/doctrinal system. churchill himself once said "history will be kind to me, for i intend to write it" and it seems it certainly has been
what are your views? is churchill the greatest ever britain? |

Not a chance was he the best ever - he used what had already been created by the real greats... people like Brunel, Kelvin, Darwin, etc
The correct word is 'Britons' btw |

Maybe not the greatest ever...but certainly the best man at the time for the job in our greatest hour of need, and the world's hour of need, to fight the Axis forces. Sadly a lot of the less great things, in both his personal and public life have been glossed over. As he so astutely noticed history is always written by the victors.
Personally I can think of loads of better names to put forward for the simple reason that they have improved the lives of millions in a positive way. Fleming, for giving us penicillin, would be very high up on my list. |

I'm not sure if this was the call that prompted this thread Luke, but I think the professor who phoned in about Georgia was great. She stood toe-to-toe with GG and I think she's the first to have actually pwned him with nothing more than patience and knowledge.
Pwned I say! haha |

I tend to agree. The only part of the interview he kept repeating after she was gone was that she "compared Bush to Churchill". She actually did nothing of the sort. And during the interview when he challenged her on that she even said that she agreed with him and she didn't mean it that way. He forgot that pretty fast for the rest of the show.
The only way he "won" that debate was because it was his fingers on the faders. |

I feel bad voting either way because I feel like I do not know enough to vote at all. |

No matter how many twists and turns GG threw her way she simply knew enough facts and history of the subject to rebute any of his claims...even his use of the fader and badgering on minor points, then worse still racially insulting her didn't throw her off her stride. Good for her!
A bitch slap to GG from the lady! |

OK......I can see what kind of conversation this is and I want to share something I have been wanting to say to George for a long time.....Please excuse me if I cuss:
George,
PLEASE STOP USING THE FUCKING MUTE BUTTON!
Love,
Ron
It is starting to drive me fucking crazy! I HATE that this person, this Doctor, this patient women, this polite and educated human being is treated like a bag of shit. She is treated by George like her opinion is a dime a dozen. She is not treated with any kind of lasting respect and I am seeing that George is so use to taking down people that he forgets who he is talking to. The fact that he put this lady in a handycaped position WITH THAT MUTE BUTTON in public and then debated with her makes me sick. I can even hear him press it at times on his show. That is tackie. He abuses that button. And furthermore, I never thought I would listen to someone I like alot and yet, at the same time, I want to scream at him about every call:......LET THE IDIOT SPEAK! And this lady was not an idiot. You can tell that after about 3 minutes of this call. He also clearly cut her off at the end. And GG has lost some respect with me here, today. I am outraged.
If I were to side with either person in this debate, well I could not side with any. This lady made valid points and arguments that were not addressed and George overtalked her and spoiled the debate. This women could not have pawned George, in my opinion, because there was alot more she could have said compaired to George's point....But couldnt say because of George's Mute Button and cut off when he couldnt handle it anymore or whatever the reason. I am starting to think that is the point of the badly over used Mute button.
I do not like the fact that George claims he smells a rat because someone is not an Isreali. This bothers me.
I do not like that someone, especially someone with a PHfuckingD, cannot make a possible likely similarity between two well known people. Since when did he make the rules for debate? And perhaps if he is so bothered by that, then he can bring her house down but still let her make her point! BUT HE DIDNT! HE SPOILED IT! Flag on the field! And this is not the only one, but it will be my last for now. I need to go soak my head. I cannnot stand the unlevel playing field that George used.
Oh, and after this, I am voting no. |

On the topic of why I am voting No......
I take this conversation and thread link related to the question voting on. I am voting no because as it would relate to this conversation between GG and the Good Doctor, my answer would be no. But overall, I could not vote because of my lack of understanding overall on that general question. |
