I know I said I would be doing sandwiches all week ..... and trust me this will be a sandwich eventually .......But first lets have the meal ... I have never actually made a meatloaf before .......so this try was all about getting it to taste how I wanted ......... I had had a meatloaf sandwich somewhere ages ago .....and I loved it .......so this was my attempt .....at getting the same taste .......
Aja's Asian Style Meatloaf
The Stuff
3 pounds ground beef
3 slices bread, in blender for breadcrumbs
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 med onion, finely chopped
2 stalks celery, finely chopped
4 tablespoons soy sauce
1 heaped tablespoon minced fresh ginger
2 cloves of garlic minced
handful of fresh cilantro ..chopped fine
4 tablespoons hoisin sauce
salt and pepper
1/4 cup ketchup
3 table spoons of hoisin sauce
What to do ......
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2. saute onions and celery for a couple of mins in your choice of oil (i used canola)
2. In a large bowl, mix together the beef, bread crumbs, eggs, onion, and celery. and cilantro Season with 4 tablespoons soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and 4 tablespoons hoisin sauce. shape into loaf......and put in baking tray .......
3. Bake in preheated oven for 40 minutes.
4. Drain grease from pan. In a small bowl, mix 1/4 cup of ketchup and 3 tablespoons of hoisin sauce .....brush over meat loaf bake for a nother 20 mins ....... let rest for 5 mins ........
I served with white rice and red pepper flakes and some frozen veggies i had ......mixed with some hoisin sauce .......it was very delish.......
sorry the pics are not that good
tonight we are having same meatloaf with Mash and Beans with a little of the hoisin sauce ......
Fella said it was delish
More to come on the sandwich in a couple of secs ........
ps
Hoisin sauce , is a thick, reddish-brown sauce that is sweet and spicy, and widely used in Chinese cooking. It's a mixture of soybeans, garlic, chile peppers and various spices.
pps I made 2 loafs out of this recipe .......It should freeze well ..if U dont eat it all first |

Any way here's the Sandwich........
Meatloaf Panini.........
2 Slices of Panini bread .....Or a nice French or Italian White
3/4 thinnish slices of meatloaf (warmed)
Charred onions ..as many as u like (That's fryed till after they are golden )
Aged or mature chedder......Grated....
Butter
..........................................
spread the meat loaf on one slice of bread
add the onions
add the cheese......put other slice on top spread butter on top .....
put butter side down on Panini grill or George foreman and spread butter on other side .....
4/5 Min's after ....Ready to eat ...... DELISH
If U don't have a grill U can do in pan ......just turn the sandwich after a couple of Min's ......
