Coronation Street took top honour at this year's Inside Soap Awards, walking away with five out of the 14 trophies – including the gong for 'Best Soap'.

Also scooping five awards were EastEnders, while Emmerdale bagged three and Hollyoaks one. The Bill, meanwhile, was named 'Best Drama' for the second year running.

Weatherfield's Rob James-Collier (Liam Connor) landed two awards - 'Sexiest Male' and 'Best Newcomer'; co-star Antony Cotton – Sean Tully in the ITV soap – was named 'Best Actor'; and Jack P. Shepherd’s portrayal of evil David Platt won him this year’s title for 'Best Bad Boy'.

EastEnders' Lacey Turner took the 'Best Actress' gong for a second year in a row; Sophie Thompson landed 'Best Bitch' for her role as the now-dead Stella Crawford; while Kara Tointon was named 'Best Dressed'.

The Dales' Belle Dingle – played by 10-year-old Eden Taylor-Draper – scooped the award for 'Best Young Actor' and Charlie Hardwick took home the title of 'Funniest Character' for her portrayal of Val Lambert.

Hollyoaks, meanwhile, boasted the 'Sexiest Female' of the night, with the trophy being awarded to Roxanne McKee – Louise Summers in the Channel 4 soap.

Speaking of this year's awards, Inside Soap editor Steven Murphy said: "This was one of the most hotly contested years for the Inside Soap Awards and it's wonderful to see so many new names on the winners' list."

He added: "The race for 'Best Soap' was neck and neck until voting closed, which just proves what an outstanding year it's been in soapland.”

This year's awards were held at the Gilgamesh restaurant and bar in Camden, London.

I'm sure this has been mentioned before but Antony Cotton/Sean Tully "best actor"?

Doesn't look like he's stretching himself too much in his role.

I think he's actually shrunk rather than stretched in the last while.

It's good to see that Jack Shepherd (David Platt) got the award for best bad-boy though.
