I thought the same, but the line about him having committed suicide suggests that he might have thought quite a lot about it himself after the event. |

@ major.tom:
Not how I like to start my day, but photos like this certainly make me greatful that my family is safe & well.
That photo still sickens me to this day (I recall it from 94/95), the fact that people can witness this kind of thing & not do anything nor be able to do anything.
=======================================
@ luke:
That picture certainly reminds me of a TV show I used to work on back in the early 90's when I was with Hat Trick Productions.
"Drop the Dead Donkey", it was a comedy show based on / around a news room...
One of the character's 'Modus Operandi' was to place (or talk of placing) a teddy bear in any scene that they were reporting on.
This picture certainly captures the essence of most 'News' crews.
BTW Thanks for turning me onto 'Banksy'...
Having been out of the UK since 94 I have missed such great talent...
Reading wiki on him http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banksy has got me searching all over for his work. |

remember the young girl at the end of the origional live aid film she was dieing of starvation , her exprssion was very haunting, the bbc reporter Michael Buerk and his crew gave her and her mother food and water and took them in their tv van to a hospital 200 miles away, so they are not all bad, but many reporters only want the shot and get beyond caring.
this is the same girl shown on live aid and at live8 with madonna |

Luke] I agree. My 1st reaction was to want to pick up the child and carry it to the camp for medical attention.
6ULDV8] My apologies for the timing. This is the 1st time I've seen this photo, and thought it too poignant not to share.
alan1254] It's nice to see that young girl looking so remarkably well (with the exception of that rather unattractive growth on her shoulder, that is). |

I expect the guy didn't carry the child to the hospital because there were thousands of starving children and adults all around him. To single out one for salvation in a way seems even crueler than remaining outside the situation entirely, although the picture of course encourages us to focus on that individual subject, and so of course we feel strongly inclined to help. |

That was my line of thinking as well. |

Don't do it! There are still things worth doing in the world! Killing yourself would be a waste.
